Finasteride Tips & Patient Guide

Finasteride is the most effective clinically proven oral treatment for male pattern baldness. It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone into DHT, the hormone responsible for shrinking hair follicles.

1. Consistency is Key

  • Daily Routine: Take one 1mg tablet every day. You can take it with or without food.
  • Patience: Hair grows slowly! It typically takes 3 to 6 months of daily use before you notice any visible slowing of hair loss, and up to 12 months to see maximum regrowth. Do not stop taking it early just because you don’t see instant results.

2. The Shedding Phase

  • When you first start Finasteride, you might actually notice a temporary increase in hair shedding. This is completely normal and is a sign that the medication is working. Your old, weak hairs are being pushed out to make way for new, thicker hairs.

3. Long-Term Commitment

  • Finasteride only works for as long as you take it. If you stop taking the medication, the DHT levels in your scalp will rise again, and you will likely lose the hair you gained or preserved within 9 to 12 months.

4. Safety and Side Effects

  • Finasteride is generally well-tolerated. However, a small percentage of men (less than 2%) may experience side effects such as a decreased sex drive or erectile dysfunction. If you experience these side effects, consult our clinical team.
  • Women: Finasteride is strictly for men and should never be handled by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.
