Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) Tips & Patient Guide

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is an alternative period delay tablet. It is often prescribed for women who cannot take Norethisterone (such as those with a higher risk of blood clots).

1. How to Take Provera

  • Start Date: You must start taking the tablets 3 days before your period is expected to begin.
  • Dosage: Take one 10mg tablet three times a day.
  • Duration: Continue taking the tablets for as long as you want to delay your period (up to a maximum of 14 days).

2. When Will My Period Return?

  • Your period will normally start within 2 to 4 days after you stop taking the last tablet.

3. Important Safety Information

  • Not a Contraceptive: Provera does not prevent pregnancy. Use condoms or other barrier methods.
  • Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, breast tenderness, or headaches. If you experience severe headaches, leg pain, or breathing difficulties, stop taking the medication immediately and seek emergency medical help.
