Rybelsus (Oral Semaglutide) Tips & Patient Guide

Welcome to your Rybelsus journey! Rybelsus is the first oral pill form of semaglutide (the same active ingredient found in Wegovy and Ozempic). It works by reducing your appetite and regulating blood sugar.

Because Rybelsus is a pill, it has very specific rules for how it must be taken to ensure your body absorbs it properly.

1. The Strict Rules for Taking Rybelsus

To ensure the medication actually works, you must follow these instructions every single morning:

  • Take it on an empty stomach: Take your tablet first thing in the morning when you wake up.
  • Use only a tiny sip of water: Swallow the tablet whole with no more than 120ml (half a glass) of water.
  • Wait 30 minutes: You must wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking any other beverages (including coffee or tea), or taking other oral medications. Waiting longer than 30 minutes may increase absorption.

2. Managing Side Effects

Like all GLP-1 medications, Rybelsus can cause nausea, indigestion, and stomach upset.

  • Eat smaller meals and chew your food slowly.
  • Avoid very fatty, greasy, or spicy foods, especially in the first few weeks.
  • If you experience nausea, try eating plain foods like toast or crackers.

3. Dosing

You will start on a 3mg dose to allow your body to get used to the medication, before stepping up to 7mg and eventually 14mg. Do not increase your dose faster than prescribed.
