Tadalafil is a popular treatment for erectile dysfunction, often referred to as the “weekend pill” because a single dose can remain effective in your body for up to 36 hours.
1. How to Take Tadalafil
- Timing: Take your tablet at least 30 minutes before you plan to have sex.
- Food: Unlike other ED medications, Tadalafil can be taken with or without food. A heavy meal will not significantly delay its effects.
- Sexual Stimulation: Tadalafil only works when you are sexually aroused.
2. Daily vs On-Demand
There are two ways to take Tadalafil:
- On-Demand (10mg or 20mg): Taken as needed, at least 30 mins before sex. Never take more than one tablet in a 24-hour period.
- Daily (2.5mg or 5mg): Taken once a day at the same time every day. This allows for spontaneous sex at any time without having to plan ahead.
3. Important Safety Information
- Nitrates: Absolutely do not take Tadalafil if you use nitrate drugs for chest pain or recreational ‘poppers’. This can cause a life-threatening drop in blood pressure.
- Side Effects: Common side effects include back pain, muscle aches, flushing, and headaches. Back pain or muscle aches can sometimes occur 12-24 hours after taking the medication and usually resolve within 2 days.
