Wegovy (Semaglutide) Tips & Patient Guide

Welcome to your Wegovy (semaglutide) journey! Wegovy is a powerful GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps you lose weight by reducing your appetite and making you feel fuller for longer.

To ensure your success and comfort, please read through these essential tips.

1. How to Use the Wegovy FlexTouch Pen

Wegovy comes in a pre-filled, multi-dose FlexTouch pen.

  • Storage: Store your unused pen in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C). Once in use, it can be kept at room temperature (up to 30°C) for up to 6 weeks.
  • Injection: Inject once weekly on the same day. Choose a site on your stomach or thighs. Rotate the injection site weekly to prevent skin irritation.
  • Needles: Use a new, sterile needle for every single injection. Never share needles.

2. Navigating the Dosing Schedule

Wegovy follows a strict titration schedule to minimise side effects. You will start at 0.25mg and slowly increase your dose every 4 weeks until you reach the maintenance dose.

  • Never skip doses to increase faster. Rushing the dose increases can lead to severe nausea and vomiting.
  • Listen to your body: If you are losing weight steadily and feel good on a lower dose, you don’t necessarily have to move up. Contact our team to discuss adjusting your plan.

3. Managing Side Effects

Nausea is the most common side effect of Wegovy. To combat this:

  • Eat bland, low-fat foods: Think crackers, toast, rice, and lean proteins.
  • Avoid large meals: Eat 4-5 small meals a day instead of 3 large ones.
  • Stay hydrated: Sip water frequently. Cold water can sometimes help soothe nausea.
